Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

Struggling with student loans while serving the greater good? If you work full-time in a government or non-profit job, you may qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. After 120 qualifying monthly payments (at least 10 years) under an accepted repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer, your remaining Direct Loan balance can be forgiven.

Do I Qualify?

You may qualify if you:

  • Work for a U.S. government or qualifying non-profit (military service counts)
  • Have Direct Loans (or consolidate others into a Direct Loan)
  • Repay under an income-driven plan or the 10-year Standard Plan
  • Make 120 qualifying payments (payments don’t have to be consecutive)

How to Apply

No need to wait until you’ve completed all the qualifying payments to apply. Submit a PSLF form annually or when you change employers to stay on track.

Use the PSLF Help Tool to:

  • Check employer eligibility
  • Submit PSLF forms electronically
  • Track your qualifying payment progress
